Good Divorce Week 2020

What is Good Divorce Week 2020?

Good Divorce Week is an annual campaign that aims to promote practical and constructive ways for couples to separate. Organised by Resolution, a community of more than 6,500 family justice professionals, this year the campaign focuses around the benefits of early legal advice, as the organisation prepares to re-launch its public facing Code of Practice. Good Divorce Week is a chance for people who usually have little to no access to professional advice to seek it out and make the best-informed decisions for themselves and their family.

Resolution members believe the process of separating, sorting out finances and arranging childcare should be done in a way that minimises conflict and keeps the best interests of any children involved at the heart of proceedings. Dealing with separation and divorce is difficult. Emotions are high and even if two people both agree to separate, the changes can be so stressful that conflict and confrontation can seem inevitable. However, this doesn’t need to be the case.

Resolution aim to demonstrate the benefits of early professional advice which can help prevent unnecessary and damaging conflict when a couple make the painful decision to divorce – particularly where children are involved. There is no silver bullet approach to divorce as every family and relationship is different. However, professional advice can help people think through their options and decide which process or combination of processes would be most suitable.

Family justice professionals can help explain all the options open to separating couples, including alternatives to court where they are appropriate, such as mediation and arbitration. This will give separating couples the confidence and knowledge to make the best decisions for themselves and their family. As a part of the Resolution family, during Good Divorce Week 2020 Carr & Co Solicitors will be offering 30 minutes of free professional advice to those who need it.

Who are Resolution?

Resolution was founded in 1982 by a group of family lawyers who believed that a non-confrontational approach to family law issues would produce better outcomes for separating families and their children. Over the decades, Resolution has maintained a commitment to a constructive way of working, enshrined in our Code of Practice, while growing to become a membership organisation for professionals that work with separating families.

Resolution members commit to a Code of Practice which promotes a constructive approach to family issues that considers the needs of the whole family and keeps the best interests of any children involved at the heart of proceedings. Our commitment to the Code means we believe the process of separating, sorting out finances and making arrangements for children can be done in a way that minimises conflict and promotes amicable agreements.
